Dating Topics
Whether you’re going on your first date or you’ve been dating for months, it’s a good idea to have a few great dating questions up your sleeves. A good dating question will break the silence and let you find out more about your date. Keep in mind that first date conversation should be a lot less personal than conversations a couple months in. You should also stay away from subjects that you two could argue about. Save it until you know them a little better!
At the beginning of the date, it’s smart just to ask how they are or what they’ve been up to. Sure, this one sounds like common knowledge but not everyone asks. To get the conversation started and show that you’re interested, make sure to ask how someone’s doing immediately. Another conversation starter is to ask about how you all met. How did you meet the mutual friend that introduced us, when did you start the dating service, or how often do you go to the bar where we met?
Funny dating questions can turn a serious situation into a fun conversation. If you’re funny, tell your jokes! If you aren’t, use some funny questions to lighten the mood. Try questions like what is the best pickup line you’ve ever heard? What is your sexiest body part? Or on a scale of one to ten, what are you?
Traveling dating questions open the conversation up to new topics and let you see if they’re interested in travel now or in the future. If you could do anything in the world what would it be? If you could go anywhere in the world, where would it be? How long have you lived in California/Miami/Washington? What’s the most recent vacation you went on? Did you go on family vacations as a kid? What’s your favorite place in the world?
Use these “favorites” dating questions to talk about neutral subjects and get the ball rolling on a conversation. What’s your favorite food? What’s your favorite bar? What’s your favorite cocktail? What’s your favorite movie? Do you like scary movies/comedies/dramas? What was your favorite movie growing up? What’s your favorite sports team? What’s the best concert you’ve ever been to? What’s your favorite song? What was your favorite class in college? Would you rather stay home and watch a movie or go out to a bar?
If you feel comfortable with someone, ask some dating conversation questions. Make sure you don’t ask them anything too personal about their dating past or pry about their past relationships. Try questions like, how many relationships have you been in? Have you ever tried online dating? or What’s your idea of the perfect date?
Career talk is bound to come up during date conversation. It’s good to know what someone does, and even better to talk about their passion. So ask the right questions to figure out where they see themselves in the future. Be sure you’re not talking about work for too long because it may bore the other person. And make sure that finances don’t come up anywhere in the conversation. Ask them what they do. Then ask what their job consists of. Do you like your job? How do you like your coworkers or boss?
Lastly, ask about their hopes for the future. Sometimes a person’s job doesn’t have anything to do with what they want for themselves. Ask about their plans for the future. Ask what their dreams are outside of their career as well.
